Tips for a successful photoshoot

A great photoshoot and incredible images are the result of more than just the time spent in front of the camera. To make the most of your photoshoot... here are a few tips.

1. Planning. Talk to your photographer prior to the shoot, and ask any questions that you may have. No question is too simple to ask. It is the photographer's job to help you prepare to get the most out of your images. Go over styles, wardrobe, locations, pose ideas, etc. A good photographer will help you to plan out your shoot in advance of the day.

2. Wardrobe. Don't be afraid to bring along more wardrobe than you think you will need. Often times, I will have the client bring along many different outfits, which we then go through at the shoot to co ordinate what to wear to achieve the desired outcome.

3. Style. Make sure to communicate to your photographer what "Style" of shoot you desire. Is it Glamour, Sexy, Pretty, Swimwear, Family Portrait type, or another style. If you don't know what to call the style you are looking for, go through the photographer's portfolio and point out some of the images you like. That will go a long way towards your photoshoot planning and wardrobe selection.

4. Rest. Rest up the day and night before your shoot. You don't want to show up for your shoot tired and dragging. Save your energy for the shoot, and your final images will be much better!

5. Make up. Not too much.. not too little. The best way to look at your make up set up for the shoot is to imagine you are going out for the evening. Bring along your make up kit for touch ups during the shoot.

6. Relax. If this is your first shoot, it is natural to be a bit nervous at the beginning. Count on your photographer to help you establish your mood and tone. As you progress through the shoot, you will most likely find that you become more and more relaxed and "lost in the shoot" after the initial few minutes. Remember, in addition to getting some great images.. .photoshoots can be fun! You get to be star for the day!

7. Pricing. Make sure you understand before the shoot what the photographer's charges are. Ask about sitting fees, print fees, etc during your initial consultation.

8. Be on time. Make sure you are ready and head to the shoot location with time to spare... don't make yourself hectic and nervous by heading out late.

Enjoy your shoot!
